Sabernomics: Are Managers Important

If you want some slightly geeky reading, here is a paper by Kennesaw State University’s J.C. Bradbury evaluating the importance of baseball managers. His conclusions? No major league manager has a significant measurable effect on team performance. However, in the last decade, there is a relationship between a new manager and increased attendance.

Basically managers are paid handsomely to be scapegoats. So maybe it doesn’t matter who the Mets pick for their next manager.
